Pacific Motors Competition

Here is another sketch competition hosted by Local Motors with the motto “Thrive in the Elements!”. That’s right! Another fight against the elements that will provide enough inspiration for everyone’s concepts.

This time the focused region will be the Pacific Northwestern region of USA and as you can see in the competition page it is full of challenges to tackle, so start reading and looking at some pictures to “feed” your creative mind.

Seems the main objective of this competition is to create a car capable of inspiring the drivers of the given region to “thrive in the elements” (AKA experiment and succeed to surpass what nature have to give us), however you have to pay special attention to these parts of the brief if you want to really understand the scope of this competition:

“The type of vehicle is not specified, though it must fit within a specified volume (see Ignition Kit & Deliverables).”

“You may design a city vehicle inspired by the elements, or a vehicle made to allow your driver to better experience the elements. It is up to you. Explore the theme “Thrive in the Elements”, and design for the Pacific Northwest.”

As usual, there will be some prizes for the top three:

First Place $1500
Second Place: $300
Third Place: $200

Design a Car Unlike a Car

“Design a Car unlike a Car” is the 2nd edition of the competition series of Domus Academy Master in Car Design that aims to provoke the designers to go beyond the boundaries of “exterior beauty”. You are invited to identify the “neglected needs” and propose a solution for the continuously changing needs of our world that we have been ignoring for decades.

The competition is open to any designer (professional or student), so everyone is invited to this “party”!

Regarding prizes, three scholarships will be awarded for the podium covering respectively 70% (1st prize), 50% (2nd prize), 30% (3rd prize) of the total tuition fee for 2010/2011 Domus Academy Master in Car Design.

If you are thinking of going there to study anyway, all candidates who send their project as participation to the competition will receive an award consisting of 10% discount on the tuition fee to attend the Master in Car Design.

Michelin Challenge Design 2011

It is entitled “‘PLUS 10’ – The Best is Yet to Come!“

This time they decided to give us the chance to predict what will be the future or transportation design, ten years from now.

The goal is to design a vehicle that people in your country/region will enjoy using in the year 2021. As they say, the “vehicle should answer the preferences, lifestyle and transportation needs for the population in your part of the world”.

Participation is restricted to OEM design studios, independent design studios, individual designers, academic Transportation Design students and teams and automotive suppliers.

Her are the most relevant dates to remember:

Pre-Registration: October 1, 2009 – March 5, 2010
Registration/Entry Form: March 12, 2010 – June 11, 2010
Submission of Design Images: March 12, 2010 – June 11, 2010
Deadline – Entry Form & Design Image Submission: June 11, 2010

“Car Design” Competition

Yes, it’s called “Car Design”… although the name its not very original, if you check up the competition itself, I think you’ll be more excited about it.

It is an Italian based competition held by The Faculty of Architecture at the University of Trieste in collaboration with the Association of Vintage Vehicles Amateurs of Trieste and it is characterized by both as an “international competition of free hand drawings and/or computer generated drawings“.

The competition is restricted to students and graduates from architecture, engineering, design and fine arts, no older than 35 years, and you can participate individually or in group.

The total prize money is generous and divided as follows:

First prize: €3000,00
Second prize: €2000,00
Third prize: €1000,00

VDA Design Award 2008

The VDA Design Award, now announced for the fourth time, is intended for newcomers to the international design profession, to encourage them in a visionary approach to the subject of freight transport by road. The competition is open to any student of design or arts, architecture or media courses. It is sponsored and organised by The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA – Verband der Automobilindustrie).

The main criteria of evaluation are the quality of concept and vision, degree of innovation, quality of design and presentation, technical execution of design.The prizes are:
2000 Euro for the winner, 1000 for second place and 500 for the third, but more interesting, winners will be awarded with seven professional internship placements.

Interior Motives Awards 2008

For the sixth time the Interior Motives Design Awards will once again take place with the full support of Interior Motives magazine.The aim of this prestigious competition is to acknowledge the finest design innovations by students from a broad range of disciplines, and to present this work to the global automotive design community.

Interior Motives Design Awards 2008 prizes will be awarded for the following ten categories:

* Best innovation
* Best use of technology
* Best use of ambient lighting
* Best production interior
* Best conceptual interior
* Best lifestyle interior
* Best safety innovation
* Best personalisation
* Best eco design
* Best conceptual exterior*

The overall winner receives a cheque for $5000 and an internship at Volkswagen’s Future Design trendlab in Wolfsburg, Germany, category winners will receive a cheque for $500.

Competition started 15th of January and the deadline is set for 30th April 2008

Cardesignnews contest 2008

cardesignnews.com has come up with its 2008 competition having a rather interesting design brief. It describes three “Millenniumites”, people who were born in 2000 and their regular day in year 2028. Your goal is to design a car that fits to their individual needs and daily schedule.

The Jury consists of nine world famous and respected automotive design professionals including Martin Smith (Executive Vice President of Design, Ford Europe Asia Pacific and Africa), Shiro Nakamura (Head of Design, Nissan) and Gorden Wagener (President Advanced Global Design, Daimler Benz)

There are two categories in the competition, professional and student. Winner of each category will receive Autodesk DesignStudio software (7000$), 2000$ in cash and a year membership at cardesignnews.com. All finalists will have their work on display on cardesignnews.

The competition deadline is: Wednesday 26^th March 2008
