Concept Ribcage 2030

About the concept:

Concept Ribcage 2030 is a small but safe and exciting vehicle designed for the years 2030s. Based on my research, pollution, congestion and stress are main problems of out future urban environment. Sadly, there will be even more intensified speed limit regulations according to the EU transportation report issued 2006. The situation seems very discouraging to urban drivers.
However, driven by four seperate electric motors, Concept Ribcage 2030 emitts no CO2 gas, offers enough space for the city by its minimal size 2990mm in length, and provides an open driving experience that makes the driver feel it much faster than it really is. But most importantly, its safety feature makes the car the safest ever, while making the driver feel it very safe. Inspired by human ribcage’s breathing motion, the vehicle consists of a ribcage and big lung-like airbags. In normal situation the air pass through the hole on the airbag making down force to the vehicle, but in a near-accident situation, it perceives it first and the airbags inflate to enlarge protection space, while the ribcage structure is pushed outwards to widen its size by compressed air actuated inside the vehicle. Two parts together supplement driver protection, which makes it even safer than bigger cars.
For those who have stereotype to small cars, bored with Japanese manga looking cute boxy cars, Concept Ribcage 2030 will do good as an entertaining and functional vehicle for an egocentric urban hipster in 2030s.

About Hyunjoon Park:

Hi, my name is Hyunjoon Park. I got BS Industrial Design at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. It was a good design school but no transportation design course was there. I had to try by myself to learn how to design cars, looking up on the internet, making extra efforts working on my own projects, and finding opportunities to meet professional designers to listen to their advice. Thankfully enough, I have been given good opportunities to present my works at international exhibitions such as NAIAS 2007 and BODW 2007, along with the entrance to the Royal College of Art in London.

Now I am preparing to level up my ability before I start the MA course at the RCA this fall by doing a summer internship. So, if you like my work, don’t hesitate to shoot me an email!
