The internet and mobile phones have revolutionised remote communication and personalisation. But they have also disrupted our opportunities to physically socialise. Technology should be more than just intelligant, it should be sensitive. Tsugi, (meaning ‘next’ in Japanese) is targeted to trigger a new auto culture for the youth of Japan. By displaying your profile on the side screen, the car becomes a projection of your personality, much in the same way fashion does today. Your screen ‘profile’ can be updated on the move via a ‘netsuke’ inspired portable interface. When you buy a new t-shirt or music album, it can be loaded onto the screen graphics. The juxtaposition and energy of Tokyo inspired the form; buildings, exposed cables, old and new interlinked with eachother. The new youth market do not want to be defined. The expressive form along with interactive profile screen allow new levels of communication between people and cars. Show-off, flirt or display your interests to other like-minded people. Random Harmony.

I am a 24 year old, British born designer and I am currently studying an MA in Vehicle Design at the Royal College of Art in London. Previously, I studied Transportation Design at Northumbria University in the North-East of England, which I feel allowed my conceptual thinking to really run free, along with having a great time in a great city. I love to travel and work in different places, this provides infinite inspiration. In my free-time I enjoy a good thrash around on my mountain bike and try to snowboard when I can!
